Thomas Burnett Manter

Gilford, NH-------Thomas Burnett Manter, 72, of Gilford, NH died at his home on Monday evening, October 27, 2003.

Mr. Manter was born January 25, 1931 in Cambridge, MA, the son of the late Lewis Wallace and Ethel (Burnett) Manter. Mr. Manter graduated from Braintree High School, Braintree, MA and in 1952 graduated from the General Motors Institute, Flint, Michigan. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Manter was the Service Representative and District Manager for the Buick Motor Division in the Boston Zone until 1963. He purchased Hutchinson Motors in 1963 and served as owner and President of Manter Oldsmobile-Pontiac, Inc. from 1963 until its sale in 2002.

Mr. Manter was Director of the Laconia Peoples National Bank and Trust, Past President of the New Hampshire Automobile Dealers Association and Trustee of the NHADA Insurance Trust, served on the Budget Committee for the Town of Gilford and was a past director of the Governors Island Club.

Mr. Manter was Director of the New England Oldsmobile Dealers Association and a member of the Pontiac and Oldsmobile Dealer Council-Boston Zone. He was a member of the Delta Lodge AF & AM, Braintree, MA; a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Boston; a member of Aleppo Temple, Wilmington, MA and a member of the Winnipesaukee Shrine Club. He was a life member and former Vice President and Director of The Hundred Club of New Hampshire and was a former member of the Moorings Country Club, Naples, Florida.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Gretchen (Fowler) Manter of Gilford; his sons, Mark Manter and his wife, Becky, of Meredith, NH and Jeffrey Manter of Gilford, NH; his daughter, Lisa Harris, and her husband, Trevor, of Gilford, NH; his five granddaughters, Megan and Mackenzie Manter and Alexandra, Julia and Olivia Harris all of Gilford, NH; a step granddaughter, Kelsey Fields of Meredith, NH; his brother, David L. Manter, of Candia, NH; a niece and several nephews.

There will be no calling hours.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Gilford Community Church, 19 Potter Hill Road, Gilford, NH on Saturday, November 1, 2003 at 1:30PM. Rev. Michael Graham, Pastor of the church, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the family lot in Pine Grove Cemetery, Gilford, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community & Health & Hospice, Inc. 780 North Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
