Meredith, NH-----Miss Beatrice A. Judkins, 88, of the Inn at Golden View and formerly of Washington, D. C. and Madison, NH, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia, NH on April 11, 2003.
Miss Judkins was born July 21, 1914 in Lakeport, NH, the daughter of Milo and Carrie (Lamere) Judkins.
Miss Judkins graduated from Laconia High School in 1933 and from Keene State Teachers College in 1937. She also studied at the University of Maine, the University of Wisconsin, Cornell Teachers College and received her Master's Degree from Columbia University.
Miss Judkins taught home economics and biology at Littleton High School, Littleton, NH and also at the Quimby School in Center Sandwich, NH. She was advisor to the State Organization of Home Economics Clubs, later known as Future Homemakers of America, for four years. She worked for the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension Service. She was the Merrimack County Home Demonstration Agent from August 1945-February 1949; from February 1949-May 1957 she was the State Leader Extension Home Economics, University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH. Miss Judkins was the National Program Director of the Extension Service, U. S. Department of Agriculture, Washington, D. C from May 1957 and until her retirement in August 14, 1976. In 1963-1964, she taught at the Western Regional Extension Summer School. County Extension Home Economists from various states were enrolled in her course.
On May 14, 1968, the U. S. Department of Agriculture presented a Superior Service Award to the Division of Home Economics, Federal Extension Service to Miss Judkins.
Miss Judkins was a former member of the N. H. Home Economics Association, the American Home Economics Association, the Mt. Israel Grange of Center Sandwich, and the National Association of Federal-State Employees. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, a member and past President of the Epsilon Sigma Phi in Washington, D.C. and a member of the National Epsilon Sigma Phi.
Miss Judkins was a member of the Foundry United Methodist Church in Washington, D.C. and the Madison Community Church in Madison, NH.
Survivors include a brother, Fenton Judkins of Belmont, NH; two nephews, Richard Judkins of Laconia, NH and Ronald Chase and five nieces, Karen Drouin of Belmont, NH, Patricia Koch, Betty Lou Chase Dame, -Theresa Gallagher and Margaret Cram. She was predeceased by a brother, Nelson Judkins and by a sister, Velma Chase.
Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 from 1:00-2:00 PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH. A Funeral Service will be held following the calling hours at 2:00 PM at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the family lot in Bayside Cemetery, Laconia, NH.
