Demetrios C. Copadis

Laconia, NH-----Demetrios C. Copadis, 81, of 71 Lyford Street, Laconia, NH and Cape Elizabeth, Maine died at Mercy Hospital, Portland, Maine on Tuesday, April 26, 2005.

Mr. Copadis was born August 10, 1923 in Manchester, NH the son of Constantine and Elizabeth (Blogouras) Copadis.

Mr. Copadis learned to fly at the age of sixteen and served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He later served in the New Hampshire National Guard and was a Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol. Mr. Copadis attended Harvard University night school and Blackstone Correspondence Law School.

Mr. Copadis was employed at the FAA in Portland, Maine for twenty-eight years, retiring in 1986. Following his retirement from the FAA, Mr. Copadis was designated as a pilot examiner until his final retirement in 1997. Mr. Copadis was awarded the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award by the Federal Aviation Administration. This award is awarded to those airmen who have contributed to and maintained safe flight operations for fifty or more consecutive years of piloting aircraft.

Mr. Copadis was a member of the St. Taxiarchai Greek Orthodox Church in Laconia and a member of St. George's Cathedral in Manchester, NH. He was a life member of the Q. B.(Quiet Birdman); a member of the Masonic Lodge A.F. & A. M. in Salem, MA; was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of the Bektash Shrine. Mr. Copadis was member of the Laconia Airport Authority.

Survivors include his wife, Litsa (Orfanethes) Copadis, of Laconia, NH and Cape Elizabeth, Maine; a sister, Ida Barton, and her husband, George, of Gilford, NH; two nephews, John Barton, of Gilford, NH and Christopher Barton of Laconia, NH and a cousin, George Copadis, of Manchester, NH.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2005 from 5:00-8:00 PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH.

A Funeral Service will be held at the St. Taxiarchai Greek Orthodox Church, 811 North Main Street, Laconia, NH on Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at 10:00AM.

Burial will follow in the family lot in Union Cemetery, Laconia, NH

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Taxiarchai Greek Orthodox Church - Elevator Fund, 811 North Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
