Dr. Robert D. Wiley Gilford-----Dr. Robert D. Wiley, 88, Retired Obstetrician, of Robindale Circle, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia on Thursday, April 29, 2010. Dr. Wiley was born January 7, 1922 in Revere, MA, the son of Harry D. and Nona (Regnier) Wiley. Dr. Wiley was a 1940 graduate of the Bronxville, NY school system. In 1944, he graduated with a B.S. Degree from Dartmouth College and with a two-year certificate from Dartmouth Medical School in 1945. In 1947, he graduated with honors in Obstetrics and Gynecology from New York University School of Medicine. From 1947-1948, he interned at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital followed by his Fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1948-1949 also at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital. He served his Residency in Ob-Gyn from 1948-1950 and from 1952-1954 at Grace-New Haven Hospital (Yale). He served in the U.S. military from 1951-1952. Dr. Wiley was a member of the staff of the Laconia Clinic from 1954-1991 and a member of the staff of the Laconia Hospital from 1954-1989. He was a member of the New Hampshire Medical Society from 1954-1989, certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1958 and was a life member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Twice, he was president of the Laconia Clinic and was a former president of the Laconia Hospital Staff and Chief of Staff at Lakes Region General Hospital. During his practice, he assisted in the delivery of over 3,700 babies. Dr. Wiley served a six-year term as Trustee of Lakes Region General Hospital and was a former Trustee of the American Group Practice Assn. Dr. Wiley’s hobbies included skiing, golf, and woodworking. Survivors include his wife, Cecile (Morin) Wiley; two sons, Christopher Wiley, M.D. and his wife, Peggy, and Mark Wiley and his wife, Janice; two daughters, Suzanne Young and her husband, Tracy, and Jean Elliott and her husband, Joseph; two stepchildren, Cynthia Baron and Randy Pike and his wife, Patty, sixteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren and a sister, Marcia Wiley. In addition to his parents, Dr. Wiley was predeceased by his first wife, Honnor Wiley, in 1965 and by his two brothers, John Wiley and Paul Wiley. According to Dr. Wiley’s wishes, there will be no calling hours and a private funeral service will be held. Burial will be in the family lot in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Laconia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the LRGH Nursery Guild, c/o LRGH, 80 Highland Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
