Laconia-Mrs. Margaret E. "Betty" Leahy, RN, 90, of 179 Holman Street, died at the St. Francis Home, on Tuesday, August 13, 2002.
Mrs. Leahy was born in Whitefield, NH in 1912, the daughter of John and Annie (Bisson) Hoey.
Mrs. Leahy moved to Laconia, NH in 1918, She attended St. John&Mac226;s Parochial School, graduated from Laconia High School in 1930 and from the Laconia Hospital Training School in 1934. She was employed as night supervisor at the Laconia Hospital for four years. In 1938 she married Dr. Roland Leahy.
Mrs. Leahy was a member of the Lakes Region General Hospital Auxiliary, serving as hospitality chairman for twelve years, the Nurses Alumni Association, the N. H. Dental Auxiliary, the Opechee Garden Club, the Green Thumbs Garden Club, the Old Mill Society, the Laconia Country Club and the Women&Mac226;s Twilight League . She was an Incorporator for the Taylor Home and was a volunteer for the Red Cross Blood Bank and at McKerly&Mac226;s Nursing Home. She served on the Laconia Centennial Committee as story and news editor.
Mrs. Leahy is survived by three sons, Michael and his wife, Deborah, of Bloomfield, Connecticut, John of Laconia, NH and Richard and his wife, Marie, of Laconia, NH; four grandchildren, Wendy Leahy and Atty. Michael Leahy both of New York City, Jennifer Leahy of Laconia, NH; Jonathan Leahy of Los Angeles, CA; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Roland Leahy, who died in 1997.
There will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 17, 2002 at Noon at St. Joseph Church, 30 Church Street, Laconia. Rev. Gary Kosmowski, Pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow in the family lot in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lakes Region General Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund, Highland Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
