Loran D. Percy

Gilford, NH---Loran D. Percy, 71, of Cherry Valley Road, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia on Tuesday, August 27, 2002.

Mr. Percy was born June 10, 1931 in Laconia, NH the son of Max A. and Eleanor (Davis) Percy. He graduated from Laconia High School in 1949 and was a photographer for many years before becoming interested in art. His talents led him to his current vocation and reputation as the artist of Gilford as well as a well-known artist throughout New England. Many of his murals can be found in the Laconia Post Office, at Gunstock, Piche’s, Nadia’s, and in many homes throughout the Lakes Region. For the past 41 years, he had maintained his Art Gallery in Gilford and eleven years ago was joined by his daughter, Susan, where they combined art and crystal cutting.

Loran was a charter member of the Gilford Rotary Club and a twice recognized Paul Harris Fellow. For over fifty years, he was a member of the Laconia Art Association and served in the past as president and was usually in charge of hanging for their annual show. He was a member of the United Baptist Church of Lakeport for over fifty years and served on the Deaconate and Board of Trustees. He also was a member of the Bayside Cemetery Board of Directors. For thirty-six years, he taught three weekly art classes and was a favorite with his many students. He was a member of the Laconia Model Yacht Club and sailed soling model yachts on Lily Pond in Gilford. For many years he was a ski instructor at Gunstock Ski School and worked for both Penny Pitou and Egon Zimmerman.

Survivors include his wife, Jane (Roberts) Percy, of Gilford; a daughter, Susan, and her husband, Dr. Robert B. MacDonald, of Gilford; one grandchild, Tristan R. MacDonald of Gilford, two brothers, Deane Percy of Dover and William Percy of Danbury; one sister, Phyllis Frew of Massillon, Ohio; four nephews, Dane Percy of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Wayne Percy of Laconia and Kenneth Frew and William Frew both of Ohio; two nieces, Carla Percy of Virginia and Darlene Percy of Rhode Island; and many great nephews and nieces.

There will be no calling hours.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2002 at 10:00 AM at The United Baptist Church, 35 Park Street, Lakeport, NH. Rev. Sharron Lamothe, Pastor of the Church. will officiate. Burial will be in the family lot in Bayside Cemetery, Laconia, NH.
