Laconia, NH-----George Peter Spanos, 83, of 3125 Parade Road, died at the St. Francis Home on Friday, August 22, 2003.
Mr. Spanos was born October 22, 1919 in Lowell, MA, the son of Peter & Constance (Sofronas) Spanos. He was a graduate of Lowell Textile Institute.
In 1952, Mr. Spanos moved to Lakes Region from Lowell, MA. He was a prominent member of the Lakes Region business community for over 50 years and was an active member of several community organizations. His properties included the former Shangri-La Resort (now Brickyard Mountain), Weirs, the Stage Inn (presently B. Mae Denny's) in Gilford,
Lake Shore Park in Gilford, as well as his present establishment, Shalimar Resort, in Winnisquam, NH. He retired within the last few years.
Survivors include his wife, Mary (Kosartes) Spanos of Laconia, NH; a son and daughter-in-law, Peter J. & Sharon Spanos of Laconia. NH; two grandchildren, Sofia and Carey John; a brother, William Spanos of Lowell, MA; and three sisters, Bessie Rallis of Chelmsford, MA, Sofia Orphanos of Lowell, MA and Georgia Livades of California; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Charlotte M. Spanos, two brothers, James Spanos and Ernest Spanos; and by a sister, Angela Boudouris.
A private funeral service was held.
