Laconia------Lora J. Billings, 97, formerly of Mile Hill Road, died at the Belknap County Nursing Home, Laconia on Tuesday, August 24, 2004. She was the widow of Kenneth W. Billings who died February 27, 1992.
Mrs. Billings was born March 8, 1907 in Grand Lake Stream, Maine, the daughter of Freeman and Myrtie (Bryant) French. She grew up in Belmont, NH and also lived in Worcester, MA, Sanbornton, NH, Laconia, NH, and Meredith, NH. She and her husband were married for sixty-seven years. During World War II, Mrs. Billings worked in a first aid factory assembling first aid kits. Later, she was a cook in the cafeteria at Laconia High School Cafeteria for many years and was fondly known as "Billy". She made sure that the football team received generous helpings.
Mrs. Billings will always be remembered for giving help and care to anyone in need. She was in fact the wind beneath so many of our wings. When she was no longer able to give to others, she was helped by the strong and loving care of the Belknap County Nursing Home staff. She will be sorely missed.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia C. and Harold Knowlton, of Laconia, NH; a grandchild, Kenneth Knowlton and his companion, Barbara Garneau, of Belmont, NH and many nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
There will be no calling hours.
A private graveside service will be held at the family lot in South Road Cemetery, Belmont, NH
