Laconia-------Gordon V. Carkin, 79, of 37 Lafayette Street, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital on Wednesday, August 25, 2004.
Mr. Carkin was born November 20, 1924 in Milford, NH, the son of Robert C. and Beulah (Goodale) Carkin. He lived in Lincoln, NH for thirty-four years. He then moved to Sanbornton, NH where he lived for several years before moving to Laconia two years ago.
Mr. Carkin worked in the paper mill in Lincoln, NH for twenty-four years and also worked for Burndy Connectors for ten years, retiring in 1987.
Mr. Carkin was a member of the Sanbornton Congregational Church. He was a Mason for forty-four years and was a member of the Parker Lodge #97 in N. Woodstock, NH. He enjoyed fishing, writing poetry, playing cards, collecting coins, jogging and camping. Above all, he enjoyed his family.
Survivors include his wife, Martha (Benson) Carkin, of Laconia, NH; three sons, Stephen Carkin and his wife, Laren, of Bedford, NH, Scott Carkin and his wife, Laurie, of Hudson, NH and Stuart Carkin of Laconia, NH; a daughter, Susan Goulet and her husband, Charles, of Gilford, NH; three grandchildren, Nathan Goulet and Derek Goulet, both of Gilford, NH and Samuel Carkin of Bedford, NH; two brothers, Warren Carkin and Frank Carkin, both of Maine; three sisters, Bernice Vaughn of Sanbornville, NH, Anna Ford of Georgia and Muriel Cox of Oregon and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Carkin and Loren Carkin.
There will be no calling hours.
A Private Graveside Service will be held at the Riverside Cemetery, Lincoln, NH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parker Lodge #97, PO Box 315, No. Woodstock, NH 03262 or to the Central New Hampshire Kidney Center, 87 Spring Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
