Gilmanton Iron Works--- Hattie May Smith, 96, formerly of Gilmanton Iron Works, died Saturday, August 28, 2004 at the Golden View Health Care Center, Meredith. She was the widow of Charles Lyndell Smith who died in 1968.

Mrs. Smith was born September 12, 1907 in Gilmanton the daughter of George Samuel and Ina Mildred (Roby) Stockbridge. She was a life long resident of Gilmanton.

Mrs. Smith was employed at Laconia Manufacturing for 27 years, retiring in 1977.

Survivors include a daughter Ruth Colson of Tilton; 24 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; a brother Carl L. Stockbridge of Gilmanton; many nephews and nieces. Beside her husband and parents she was predeceased by a son George L. Smith; 2 daughters Louise Steele and Edith Twombly who died August 23, 2004.

There are no calling hours.

A graveside service for Mrs. Smith and her daughter Edith G. Twombly will be Saturday September 11, 2004 at 11:00AM at Smith Meeting House Cemetery, Gilmanton. The Rev. Linda B. Bolton, pastor of the Gilmanton Community Church will officiate.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the New Hampshire Humane Society, PO Box 572, Laconia, NH 03247-0067.
