James "Jim" A. Dinsmoor

Gilford, NH------James ‘Jim” A. Dinsmoor, 83, of 1511 East Maxwell Lane, Bloomington, Indiana, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia, NH on Thursday, August 25, 2005.

Dr. Dinsmoor was born October 4, 1921 in Woburn, MA, the son of Daniel S. and Jean (Masson) Dinsmoor. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1943 and received his Masters and PhD degrees from Columbia University in New York City. He lived in Indiana for fifty-three years and was a Professor at Indiana University for thirty-four years. He retired in 1986.

Dr. Dinsmoor was active in politics and maintained a keen interest in international affairs. An avid reader, he also was a prolific author and kept in close contact with his former classmates, colleagues, and students.

Survivors include his wife, Kay S. (Sawyer) Dinsmoor of Bloomington, Indiana; two sons, Daniel S. Dinsmoor, and his wife, Jeanne, of Arlington, VA; Robert S. Dinsmoor of South Hamilton, MA; a daughter, Mara J. Dinsmoor, MD, of Evanston, Illinois: and four grandchildren, Ari, Gabriel, Joseph and Lily Dinsmoor, all of Arlington, VA. Also surviving him are several nephews, nieces and cousins.

A private graveside service was held at the family lot in Pine Grove Cemetery, Gilford, NH. Memorial contributions may be made to Amnesty International USA, 5 Penn Plaza 14th floor, N.Y., N.Y. 10001.
