Laconia-Earl Stanley Batchelder, 90, passed away at the Lakes Region General Hospital on Sunday, April 14, 2002 after a brief illness.
Mr. Batchelder was born April 26, 1911 in Ellsworth, NH, the son of Asa A. and Georgiana E. (Healey) Batchelder. Earl, known as Batch by many was a resident of Laconia since 1964. Prior to that, he resided in Colebrook, NH where he was the proprietor of Beaver Falls Garage for 21 years. During that time he was also a member of the Evening Star Lodge No. 37 as a mason and was a Shriner of the Bektash Temple.
During his early years in Laconia, Earl was employed by Pike Industries in Tilton, NH. He later did volunteer work for Lakes Region General Healthcare.
Earl served his country during the depression as a member of the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps Camps). In the 1990s he was baptized as a member of the Jehovahs Witnesses. Earls strength of character, kindness, zest for life and the laughter he shared with everyone he came in contact with, made him an especially memorable and loved man.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Verna E. (Foss) Batchelder, of Laconia; and their two children, Lena Abbott of Laconia and Edward S. Batchelder of Lakeport; 6 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 from 7-9 PM at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, using the Whipple Avenue entrance.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at the Funeral Home at 1:30 PM. Burial will be held at a later date in the family lot at Bayside Cemetery.
