GILFORD Peter Dowd Wallace, 60, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Gilford, died Saturday, April 20, 2002.
Born on April 29, 1941 in Gilford, he was a graduate of Laconia High School, Class of 1959, where he was co-captain of the varsity football and ski teams, the latter of which went to the state championships in 1958 and 1959. He played in the 1959 Maple Sugar Shrine Bowl, the all-state players of New Hampshire vs. Vermont.
He attended the University of Miami and joined the U.S. Air Forces Weather Service in 1960. He was stationed in Grand Fork, N.D., where he met his future wife, Marie Rappa, from East Grand Forks, Minn. They were married in 1962.
Mr. Wallace moved to Florida in 1964 and started the Florida Health Agency of Seminole and operated it until 1972. He then returned to New Hampshire to sell real estate with the Hounsell Agency in Laconia. He returned to Florida in 1974 and formed the Pinellas Health Agency of Clearwater, which he served as president and CEO until his retirement in December of 2000.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Marie; two daughters, Ellen Jean van Aartrijk of Springfield, Va. and Debra Lynn Wallace of Gilford; his mother, Jean Wallace Dunedin of Florida; a brother, Michael Wallace of Gilford; two granddaughters, Noel Marie and Alexa Mary van Aartrijk of Springfield, Va.; and godson, Connor Burrows of Sandwich, N.H.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, April 27, at 11 a.m. at the family lot in Pine Grove Cemetery, Gilford.
Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant S., Laconia, is in charge of the local arrangements.
