Gilford------Norman D. "Dempsey" Gallien, 85 of 15 Bacon Drive # 19, Gilford, NH, and a long time resident of Derry, NH died at his home on Christmas day. He was born January 24, 1919 in Londonderry, NH the son of Richard and Elizabeth (Gionet) Gallien.
Mr. Gallien had resided in Derry for most of his life, moving to Gilford 7 years ago. He was a self-employed contractor for most of his life and was the former owner of Dempsey Luncheonette in Derry for a number of years.
Mr. Gallien attended Derry Public Schools and served in the US Army during WWII in the 11th Airborne Division in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus and the 11th Airborne Voice of the Angels.
Mr. Gallien was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Laconia. He and his wife celebrated there 60th wedding anniversary on Christmas eve.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years Lucille (Jordan) Gallien of Gilford; 2 sons Gregory Gallien of Gilford and Timothy Gallien of Ormond Beach, Fla.; 5 daughters Jane Potter of Ruskin, Fla., Donna McCarthy of South Paris, Maine, Carol Darbyshire of Gilmanton, Marie Beaudet of Laconia and Susan McCann of Epson; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. Beside his parents he was predeceased by 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday December 28, 2004 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia using the Carriage House entrance.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 30 Church Street, Laconia Wednesday December 29, 2004 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Noon at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Rt. 3 Boscawen NH.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Church 30 Church Street, Laconia NH 03246 or to Community Health & Hospice, 780 North Main Street Laconia, NH 03246.
