Daytona Beach, Florida----Mrs. Demofile (Phyllis) A. Ortakales, 91, of Terrace of Daytona Beach and formerly of Laconia, NH died in Florida on Saturday, December 25, 2004.
Mrs. Ortakales was born February 17, 1913 in Mytilene, Greece, the daughter of Photi and Argero Bacales.
Seventy-one years ago she moved from Greece to Laconia, NH. where she and her husband, Arthur, better known as "Shorty", had a shoe repair shop on Church Street for many years. When he became ill, she would help to run the shop until he wasn't able to continue.
She was a member of the Taxiarchai Greek Orthodox Church in Laconia, NH for many years and was a charter member of the Greek Ladies Social Club (Philoptochus). She crocheted many beautiful tablecloths and dollies and would help others in completing their projects. Her hands moved like a machine, so very fast and effective. She worked on many Fundraisers and Church Festivals and was a terrific cook. She and her husband, Arthur, also worked very hard along side many other members of the Greek Orthodox Church in Laconia to help build and establish it. In the Summer of 2001, Mrs. Ortakales moved to Florida and was a member of the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Daytona Beach. Many communities, dear friends and family will truly miss this lovely, dedicated, devoted and hard working individual.
Mrs. Ortakales is survived by son, Angelo Sobliros of Colorado and two daughters, Marina Sobliros Coidakis, of Ormond Beach, Florida and Sophie Ortakales Page of Colorado; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; several great, great grandchildren and one brother and three sisters all in Greece. She was predeceased by her first husband, Demetrius Sobliros, in 1947; by her second husband, Arthur Ortakales in 1983; by a son, George Sobliros, in 1994 and by a brother.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2004 from 5:00-8:00PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 31, 2004 at 10:00AM at the Taxiarchai Greek Orthodox Church, 811 North Main Street, Laconia, NH.
Burial will follow in the family lot in Bayside Cemetery, Laconia, NH.
