Belmont, NH---Gerald R. Batstone, 84 of 150 Farrarville Road, Belmont died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia Tuesday December 27, 2005. He had been a resident of Forrest View Manor, Meredith, NH for the past year. He was the widower of Norma L. (Payne) Batstone who died in 1993.
Mr. Batstone was born December 23, 1921 in Silver Dale Newfoundland, Canada the son of Oswald K. and Una (Baker) Batstone. He served in the US Navy during WWII.
Mr. Batstone was a self-employed painting contractor in Holbrook, MA for many years moving to Belmont in 1981. He was a former member and past president of the Holbrook Rotary Club. He was also a former member and Deacon of the Winthrop Congregational Church, Holbrook. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Belmont and a former Deacon. He enjoyed gardening and sports.
Survivors include 3 sons Alan P. Batstone of Allentown, PA, Richard I. Batstone of Belmont and Gary O. Batstone of Laconia; 2 daughters Louise A. Malone of Hanson, MA and Gail M. Batstone of Laconia; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a sister Lorraine Hagen of Gilmanton Iron Works; many nephews and nieces. Besides his parents he was pre-deceased by a sister Vivian Cadger.
Calling hours will be held Thursday December 29, 2005 from 5-7 PM at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia using the Carriage House entrance.
Funeral services will be held Friday December 30, 2005 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Belmont, 49 Church Hill Belmont. The Rev. Charles Crook, pastor of the church will officiate.
Spring burial will be in Union Cemetery, Laconia.
