Constance S. St. Clair
Laconia------Constance S. St.Clair, 86, died December 24, 2009 after a long courageous battle with an illness. Constance was born and raised in Laconia, N.H. on January 1, 1923, the only daughter of Chris N. and Cleo (Chakeris) Salta.
Constance was a graduate of Laconia High School and The University of New Hampshire. She joined the US Navy during WWII and served as a Wave stationed in San Diego and Los Angeles till the end of the war.
She was predeceased by her three brothers, Peter C. Salta, Nicholas C. Salta, and James C. Salta.
Surviving members of her family include her loving husband of 61 years, Richard H. St. Clair; sons, Richard T. St. Clair and Charles G. St. Clair,; daughters, Sandra (St. Clair) Nauman, Nicole (St. Clair) Piscopo and her husband James S. Piscopo, of Sanbornton, N.H. and Cindi St. Clair; six grandsons, Shawn St. Clair, Thomas St. Clair, James Christopher Nauman, Justin S. Piscopo, Corey J. Piscopo and James Austin Piscopo; one granddaughter, Julia St. Clair Voiers; several nieces and nephews.
Constance and her husband, Richard founded and operated five retail businesses within the state of New Hampshire during the 1950's -1970's. The most renowned was Hathaway House on Union Ave in Laconia, founded and restored in 1957 and The Old Country Store in Moultonboro, founded and restored in 1955 and still operating. They went on to find additional success in the Antique Industry as; Hathaway House Antiques and Constance S. St. Clair Antiques.
Constance was loved deeply and will be missed by all that knew her.
There are no calling hours.
A service will be held at the St. James Episcopal Church, 876 North Main St. Laconia, Wednesday, December 30 at 11 am.
Spring burial will be in Union Cemetery, Laconia.
