Laconia----Mrs. Lois (Twitchell) Learned, 99, formerly of 40 Whipple Ave., died at the Genesis Eldercare Network Laconia Center, Saturday February 22, 2003. She was the widow of Peter W. Learned, Jr. who died in 1978.
Mrs. Learned was born July 12, 1903 in Gardiner, Maine, the daughter of Elden E. and Ada F. (Atkins) Twitchell. She had been a resident of Laconia since 1938 coming from Rumford, Maine.
Mrs. Learned was employed as a telephone operator for New England Telephone Co. for 33 years, retiring in 1965.
Mrs. Learned was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Laconia for many years. She was also a member of the Endicott Rock Lodge #25 Knights of Pythian Sisters, Belknap Grange of Gilford and the Belknap County Pamona Grange.
Survivors include a daughter Sylvia Swett of Franklin; 3 grandchildren Donald Smith of Gilford, Wendy Brulotte of Gilford and Jason Swett of Laconia; 3 great-grandchildren Ryan Tuckett, Connor Brulotte and Hannah Smith; many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a brother Keith C. Twitchell and 3 sisters Eleanor Lundy, Constance Lander and Zelda Allen.
According to her wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral services. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Gardner, Maine.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the charity of ones own choice.
