Laconia-----Mrs. Marjorie Theresa McAvenia, 90, of 124 Gilford Avenue, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia on Friday, February 7, 2003. She was the widow of Charles B. McAvenia who died in 1976.
Mrs. McAvenia was born in Franklin, NH on February 18, 1912 the daughter of James P. and Anna (MacKenzie) Maloney, Sr. She graduated from Saint Mary's Grammar School and from Franklin High School, Class of 1930. She was employed at the former Sulloway Hosiery as a receptionist and secretary for many years and also modeled dresses for the Ladies Clothing Department of Holmes & Nelson.
Mrs. McAvenia moved from Franklin to Laconia over 50 years ago and was a communicant of St. Joseph Church.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Arlene Blackey, of Gilford; 6 grandchildren, Richard McAvenia, Jr. of Burlington, Vermont, Chrissy McAvenia Jones of Center Harbor, Charles McAvenia, Jr. of Laconia, Dean Chapman of Goffstown, Brian Chapman of Tilton and Dicksie Guillemette of Goffstown; 9 great grandchildren; a niece, Anna York, of Nottingham, NH; and many cousins. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Richard McAvenia, who died in 1994 at the age of 52; and by five brothers and three sisters.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 10, 2003 from 6-8 PM at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, using the Carriage House entrance.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at St. Joseph Church, 30 Church Street, Laconia, NH. Rev. Gary Kosmowski, Pastor of the church will officiate.
Burial will follow in the family lot in Bayside Cemetery, Laconia, NH.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Church, 30 Church Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
