Laconia------Ethel P. Cushing, 85, formerly of 106 Perkins Road, Belmont died at the Belknap County Nursing Home on Wednesday, February 28, 2007.
Mrs. Cushing was born in Gilmanton, N.H. on June 6, 1921, the daughter of Frank J. and Helen Otis (Wyatt) Page.
Mrs. Cushing graduated from Laconia High School and received her teaching degree from Plymouth Teachers College in 1942 which was the first four-year class. She taught in one-room schools in Canterbury and Newington. Mrs. Cushing was employed as a postal clerk in Belmont for several years.
Mrs. Cushing was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church of Belmont where she taught in and supervised the Sunday School program, led the youth groups for many years and was active in the Ladies’ Circle. Her favorite avocations were playing the accordion and cribbage.
Survivors include a son, Wyatt P. Cushing, of Belmont; a daughter, April Springfield, of Hollis; four grandchildren, Jeremy and Kent Springfield, Kristin Cushing and Melinda Mazzola; great grandson, Christopher Wyatt Mazzola and a sister, Evelyn Uhlenberg of Florida and Massachusetts. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of sixty-two years, Russell W. Cushing in 2004; by a daughter, Sandra L. Malinsky, in 2003; by a brother, Atty. George O. Page, in 2005 and by two sisters, Laura French, in 2004 and Dorothy Page Roach.
There will be no calling hours.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at 2:00PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH. Rev. Peter Udall, Mrs. Cushing’s nephew of California, will officiate.
Spring burial will be in the family lot in South Road Cemetery, Belmont.
