David W. Martin
Laconia-----David W. Martin, 73, of 227 Ledges Drive #319, Taylor Community, died at Pleasant View Center, Concord on Wednesday, February 3, 2010.
Mr. Martin was born June 9, 1936 in Dennis, Ohio, the son of Donald and Nellie (Tanzie) Martin. He lived in Ohio for many years, graduating from Midvale High School in 1954 and from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio in 1958 with a B.A. in Accounting. In 1968, he moved to Gilford, N.H. and had been a resident of Laconia for the past eleven years.
Mr. Martin was a comptroller at Scott & Williams for many years and later was the comptroller at Universal Packing in Bow, N.H., retiring in 1992.
Mr. Martin was a member of the Laconia Congregational Church for many years where he was a Deacon, former treasurer and a longtime member of the Choir. In 2005, he and his wife were recipients of the Church Service Award.
Mr. Martin was a former member and treasurer of the Belknap Mill Society and the Lakes Region United Way. He was also a member of the Pemigewasset Chorus, The Streetcar Company and the N. H. Friendship Chorus.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Beverly A. (Newton) Martin, of Laconia; a son, Robert A Martin, and his wife, Carol Smigo, of Boxborough, Mass.; a daughter, Cheryl Nickerson, and her husband, Thomas, of East Concord, N.H.; one grandson, Ryan Nickerson, of East Concord, N.H.; a sister, Donna Winner, of Sebring, Ohio and two nieces.
There will be no calling hours.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 2:00PM at the Laconia Congregational Church, 18 Veterans Square, Laconia, N.H. Rev. Dr. Warren H. Bouton, Pastor of the Church, will officiate.
Spring burial will be in the Raymond C. Wixson Memorial Garden in Gilford, N.H.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Laconia Congregational
Church, Dorcas Fund, 18 Veterans Square, Laconia, NH 03246 or to the Lakes Region United Way, 95 Water Street, Suite 1, Laconia, NH 03246-3313.
