Tilton-----James L. MacQuarrie, Sr., 72, of 30 White Rock Circle, died at the New Hampshire Veterans Home, Tilton on Thursday, February 26, 2009 surrounded by his family.
Mr. MacQuarrie was born May 26, 1936 in Laconia, N.H., the son of Leonard W. and Phyllis (Colby) MacQuarrie.

Mr. MacQuarrie served in the U. S. Army. He was a lifelong resident of the Lakes Region and was employed at Tanget Tool & Die for several years, retiring in May, 2001.

Mr. MacQuarrie was a member of the Laconia Lodge of the Elks #876, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Laconia Post #1670, the American Legion Wilkins-Smith Post No. 1, a life member of the Winnipesaukee Yacht Club and a founding member of the Lake Winnipesaukee Sailing Association. He loved to sail and ski.

Mr. MacQuarrie is survived by his wife, Beverly (Rogers) MacQuarrie, of Tilton; two sons, James MacQuarrie, Jr. of Gilford and Jay MacQuarrie and his wife, Joan, of Belmont; a daughter, Jill Sorbie, and her husband, Bill, of Dunedin, Florida; a stepson, Michael Rogers, of Tilton and a stepdaughter, Jackie Ciampi, of Northfield; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, MaryLou Sanad of Laconia and Judy Shanley of Bristol, Conn. and several nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, Mr. MacQuarrie was predeceased by a son, Joel MacQuarrie, and by two brothers, Walter “Neil” MacQuarrie and Robert MacQuarrie.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2009 from 2:00-4:00PM in the Carriage House of the

Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N. H.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 2, 2009 at 11:00AM in the Chapel at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Route 3, Boscawen, N.H. Burial, with full military honors, will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New Hampshire Veterans Home, Resident Benefit Fund, 139 Winter Street, Tilton, N.H. 03276.
