Laconia---Rebecca Davis Walkley, 90, of Laconia, NH, formerly of Darien, CT and Wilmington, NC died suddenly on January 29, 2009. She was the widow of the late Everett P. Walkley.

Rebecca was born on April 29, 1918 in Dunn, NC.  She graduated from Saint Mary’s School(1937), Raleigh, NC and University of North Carolina Women’s College in Greensboro, NC (class of 1941) with a degree in art.  She met the love of her life on a blind date in Wilmington, NC and they were married 6 months later.  They enjoyed a long life together having been married for 65 years at the time of Everett’s death in July.  Always very active, she had been an art teacher at Middlesex Junior High in Darien, CT and after her retirement continued to substitute teach and tutor well into her 70’s.  She was an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Darien and St. James Episcopal Church in Wilmington.  She shared Everett ’s love of travel and together they had been to all 7 continents including time living in Nairobi, Kenya and Singapore. 

Rebecca (Becky) is survived by her three children; Edward Walkley of Tacoma WA; Peter Walkley and his wife, Carol, of Laconia, NH and Anne McMahon and her husband, Joseph, of Marshfield, MA.  She is also survived by her five grandchildren; Rebecca and Ian McMahon, Christopher and Mackenzie Walkley and Ethan Walkley.

A memorial service will be held at the Congregational Church of Laconia, 18 Veterans Square, Laconia, N.H. on Monday, February 16, 2009 at 11:30AM. Rev. Warren Bouton, Pastor of the Church, will officiate.

  Internment will be private at Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead, MA.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Vermont/New Hampshire Affiliate, PO Box 2496, Manchester Center, Vermont 05255.
