Joseph Arruda, Jr.

Laconia-----Joseph Arruda, Jr., 85, of 25 Union Avenue and formerly of 92 Tilton Avenue, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital on Thursday, February 5, 2004.

Mr. Arruda was born August 21, 1918 in Fall River, MA, the son of Mariana (Sousa) Arruda and Joseph Arruda, Sr.

Mr. Arruda served in the U. S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Arruda had been a resident of Laconia since 1938 and was employed at Scott & Williams for forty-one years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Laconia Post No.1670, a member of the American Legion Wilkins Smith Post No. 1; a member of the Senior Citizen Club and the Elder's Club.

Mr. Arruda was a communicant of St. Joseph Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannette (Picard) Arruda of Laconia; a daughter, Pamela Bishop of Surprise, AZ; five grandchildren, John Bishop, Jr. of Worcester, MA, Joseph Bishop of Sacramento, California, Margaret O'Donnell of Wolfeboro, NH; Susan Bishop of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Tom Arruda of Richmond, VA; eleven great grandchildren; three stepsons; three step grandchildren; and six step great grandchildren; two brothers, Louis Arruda of MA and John Arruda of Texas; four sisters, Rose Aguiar and Josephine Cabral and Helen Aguiar all of RI and Delores Morreira of Fall River, MA, and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ethel S. Arruda, in 1973, by his second wife, Rachel P. Arruda, in 1999, by his son, Joseph Arruda III, in 1994, by a grandson, William Arruda, in 2003, by two brothers, Manuel Arruda and Tony Arruda and by a sister, Mary Arruda.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 9, 2004 from 4:00-7:00PM at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, Church Street, Laconia, NH on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at 11:00AM. Rev. Gary Kosmowski, pastor of the church, will be the celebrant.

Spring Burial will be in the family lot in Union Cemetery, Laconia, NH.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Community & Health & Hospice, 780 North Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
