Laconia-----Mrs. Evelyn M. Swain, 90, of 14 Lyford Street, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital on Monday, February 23, 2004. She was the widow of Rex B. Swain who died in 1966.
Mrs. Swain was born January 28, 1914 in Laconia, NH, the daughter of B.G. and Marjorie (Dame) Walker. She was a lifelong resident of the Laconia/Gilford area and was employed at the Laconia State School & Training Center for many years.
Mrs. Swain was a foster grandparent. She was a great homemaker and cook and enjoyed pottery, knitting, and canning.
Survivors include two sons, Richard B. Swain of Gilford, NH and Howard R. Swain of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; a daughter, Mrs. Sally Ann O'Connell, of Braintree, MA; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; three brothers, Gordon Walker, Howard Walker and Earle Walker all of Laconia, NH; two sisters, Eleanor Walker, of Laconia, NH and Carol Montambeault of Tilton, NH and many nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Rex B. Swain, Jr. in 1985 and John Swain in 1990; a grandson, Ricky Swain, in 1973 and a sister, Dorothy Bragg, in 1991.
Calling Hours will be held on Friday, February 27, 2004 from 5:00-7:00 PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH. A Funeral Service will be held at 7:00PM following the calling hours also at Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home. Carolyn Stevenson, Spiritual Care and Bereavement Coordinator for Community Health & Hospice, will officiate.
Spring burial will be in the family lot at Union Cemetery.
