Naples, Florida------Richard "Rick" B. Colby, 46, of Naples, Florida and formerly of Laconia, NH, died at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa Florida on Thursday, January 27, 2005 with his family by his side.
Rick was born on May 30, 1958 in Laconia, NH, the son of Richard C. and the late Priscilla (Brown) Colby. He attended the Laconia schools and in 1977 graduated from Laconia High School. He then attended the University of New Hampshire.
Rick worked for Gunstock Ski Area, the N. H. Electric Cooperative, U.P. S., Linens 'n Things and in recent years, while living in Florida, he worked at Bed, Bath & Beyond. He had lived in Florida for the past fourteen years.
Rick enjoyed life. In his youth, he played Little League baseball, participated in Boy Scouts and sang with the Colby Trio. He played football in high school and played the trumpet in the band. He enjoyed water skiing and snow skiing and coached a Little League team. He liked to cook, spend time with family, watch the Patriots, ride roller coasters and traveling. One of his favorite places to visit was Disney World.
We will miss his large presence in our lives, his thoughtfulness, friendliness and that happy, contagious laugh.
Survivors include his loving and devoted fiancée, Carol Nichols, and her two sons, David and Samuel Nichols, of Naples, Florida; his father, Richard C. Colby, of Laconia, NH; a sister, Catherine Lines, and her husband, Paul, of Gilmanton I. W., NH; a brother, Jeffrey, and his wife, Kathleen, of West Roxbury, MA; a niece and nephews, whom he enjoyed spending time with, Carolyn, Tim, Chris and Derek. He was predeceased by his mother, Priscilla Colby, in 1996 and by a brother, Christopher R. Colby, in 1963.
There will be no calling hours.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2005 at 1:00 PM at the Laconia Congregational Church, Veterans Square, Laconia, Rev. Dr. Warren H. Bouton, Pastor of the Church, will officiate.
A Memorial Service is also being planned in the near future to take place in Naples, Florida.
Spring burial will be in the family lot in Union Cemetery, Laconia, NH
