Meredith---On January 17, 2005, Theo Angelo Davis, 84, of 15 Barnard Ridge Road in Meredith died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia following a long and courageous battle with heart disease.
Mr. Davis was born in Lynn, Massachusetts in 1920, but was a long time resident of Laconia, Gilford and Meredith. He was known for his skills as a chef and owned and operated several area restaurants including the Sweetland Restaurant on Main Street in Laconia in the 1950's, and the Barefoot Boy and Pierside restaurants in Bethlehem and Glendale in the 1960's and 1970's. He was a veteran of World War II and served in Battery C of the 197th Coast antiaircraft artillery, a New Hampshire National Guard Unit activated by President Roosevelt in 1940, and served until the end of the war. His unit played a significant role in the South Pacific campaign, actively involved in providing protection of airfields and PT boat bases, from Japanese aerial assaults. Mr. Davis was active in the Greek Orthodox Church, actually participating in the construction of the building on North Main Street in Laconia. He was a familiar face at the Greek Festival, providing cooking support along side his long time friends, relatives and parishioners. He was an avid fly fisherman.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bella, a sister Mary Papakyrikos, daughters Virginia Davis and Elaine Hogan, son Steven Davis, granddaughters Tianna Moore and Abby and Hannah Davis, and a great grandson, Tucker Moore.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held on January 21, 2005 in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, at 4:00 PM.
Donations to Community Health and Hospice, Inc., 780 North Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246 in lieu of flowers would be welcomed.
