Laconia-----Rachel M. (Wells) Charland, 87, formerly of Laconia, died at the Mt. Ridge Healthcare Center, Franklin on Thursday, January 12, 2006.
Mrs. Charland was born May 7, 1918 in Walpole, MA, the daughter of Raymond F. And Olive E. (Goodenough) Wells.
Mrs. Charland lived in Vermont and Massachusetts for many years and was employed as a medical secretary in Rutland, Vermont. During the early 1980’s, she lived in Laconia before moving to Springfield, MA. Seven months ago she moved to Franklin, NH from Springfield. Mrs. Charland was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church in Springfield, MA and a former communicant of St. Joseph Church, Laconia.
Mrs. Charland was a former member of the St. Joseph’s Ladies’ Guild. She enjoyed hiking, reading, needlepoint and ceramics and was a member of the Hobby Club in Springfield, MA.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ernest and Claudette Kangas, Jr. of Belmont; a daughter, Joyce K. Kellogg, of Lincoln, Nebraska; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Wesley Wells, and by a sister, Genieve Wells.
There will be no calling hours.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, 30 Church Street, Laconia, NH on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 11:00AM by Rev. Gary Kosmowski, Pastor of the Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Greater White Mountain Chapter, American Red Cross, 21 Lyford Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
