Stella M. McGrath

Laconia---Stella M. McGrath, 102, formerly of Pleasant Street, died at Ledgeview at the Taylor Home Community, on Monday, January 8, 2007.  Mrs. McGrath was the widow of Leo P. McGrath, Sr. who died in 1986.

Mrs. McGrath was born January 29, 1904 in Newmarket, NH the daughter of Felix and Leah (Doucette) Clement. 

Mrs. McGrath had been a long- time resident of Laconia since 1907. She attended the Sacred Heart Elementary School and graduated from Laconia High School. Prior to her marriage in 1929, she was employed at Scott & Williams.

Mrs. McGrath was a communicant of St. Joseph Church and was a member of the Ladies Guild and was involved with other church activities.  She was an Advisor and Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and enjoyed cooking, cross stitching, knitting, sewing and crafts.  She was an avid fan of school and athletic activities and loved to walk.  Mrs. McGrath was known for her homemade apple pies, prepared from a recipe that was handed down in her family for generations.  Her motto was “do things in moderation.”

Survivors include two sons, Leo “Pat” McGrath, Jr. and his wife, Madeline, of Gilford and Robert H. McGrath and his wife, Donna, of Laconia; a daughter, Mary M. Morin, of Laconia; ten grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her seven brothers and four sisters, Archille, Frederick, Louis, Simeon, William, Reginald and Walter Clement and Medora Wiegley, Anna Laramie and Edna and Yvonne Clement.  

A Calling hour will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2007 from 9:30-10:30AM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH

Following the calling hour, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM at St. Joseph Church, 30 Church Street, Laconia.  Rev. Gary Kosmowski, Pastor of the Church, will be the celebrant.

Burial will follow in the family lot in St. Lambert Cemetery, Laconia, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations for the benefit of the Taylor Home Employees may be made to the Taylor Home Sunshine Fund, 435 Union Avenue, Laconia, NH 03246.
