Gilford-----Beatrice E. Whiting, 99, formerly of Breton Road, Gilford, died Saturday, July 19, 2003, at the Merrimack County Nursing Home where she had been a resident since March 27, 2003. Previously she had been a resident of Pine Rock Manor in Warner, NH for twelve years.
Mrs. Whiting was born July 6, 1904 in Plymouth, NH, the daughter of James and Mey (Avery) Batcheldor. She married Clayton H. Whiting August 10, 1926 in Nashua, NH. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August, 1976. Mr. Whiting died in February 1980.
They lived in Plymouth, NH until 1942 when they moved to Laconia.
During the war years Mrs. Whiting worked as a press operator at the Tekewood Mill in Lakeport, NH. There after she resumed her life as a wife, mother and homemaker.
In 1948 the family moved to Breton Road, Gilford, NH. Many years were devoted to raising vegetable and flower gardens, including a raspberry patch known far and wide.
Survivors include her daughter, Shirley (Whiting) Blake and her husband Albert of Danville, VA and a granddaughter, Bettina Abba of Memphis, TN. She was predeceased by her son Leslie Whiting who died unexpectedly on May 7, 1974 at the age of 47.
There will be no calling hours.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at 10:00 AM at Blair Cemetery, Campton, NH.
