Rumney----Marion Gertrude (nee Stitt) Harding died on Friday, July 2, 2004 after a brief illness. She was born in New London, CT on Feb 28, 1915, daughter of James A. and Florence (nee Harkness) Stitt (both deceased), One brother, Harold,(also deceased).
She attended schools in Groton, graduating from Fitch High School in the early 1930's. She worked in the 5&10 cent store, then at the Electric Boat Company as a secretary until the birth of her first child.
She was married at Groton Heights Baptist Church to Henry Harding on June 28, 1941. The Rev. George Atha officiated. She made her home in Groton until 1946 when she moved to Greenville, SC with her husband who attended Bob Jones University. After graduation in 1950 they returned to Groton where her husband was ordained to the Gospel Ministry. Marion was a pastor's wife in pastorates in CT, MA and ME and was widely know for her gracious hospitality. She spent 8 years teaching at Ukamba Bible School in Machakos, Kenya, working under the Africa Inland Mission. On return from Africa she resided in Weymouth, MA where her husband was on the staff of the First Baptist Church. They retired in 1989 and moved to their home on the camp grounds of The New England Fellowship, Rumney, NH. She was a member of Hope Community Chapel Baptist Church in Franklin, NH
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Rev. Henry S. Harding: a son, James Harding of Johnston, RI: a daughter, June Harding of Durham, ME: foster children Cindy Neely of Talbot, TN, Deborah Ferrara of Pawtucket, RI, Cynthia McDonald of Dorchester, MA, James Blanchard of Boston, MA and Kathy Beisiegel of Thornton, NH: 19 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild: Many nieces and nephews.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The New England Fellowship in Rumney, NH, an organization with which she has been associated for many years or Golden View Health Care Center, 19 Rt. 104 Meredith, NH 03253 where she has resided in recent months.
There will be no calling hours.
A Memorial Celebration will be held at Rumney Bible Conference Tabernacle, July 17, 2004 at 11:00am.
