Gerard J. Martel, Sr.

Laconia-----Gerard J. Martel, Sr., 77, of 765 Union Avenue, died on Thursday, July 15, 2004 at the Lakes Region General Hospital. Mr. Martel was the widower of Judy (Adamonis) Martel who died in 1971.

Mr. Martel was born October 6, 1926 in Laconia, NH, the son of William and Flora (Levesque) Martel. He was raised in Laconia and worked for the family business, Martel?s Sport Shop. He also worked for Scott & Williams in Laconia, NH and Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut.

Mr. Martel served in the U. S. Navy during WWII and was a member of the New Hampshire National Guard for thirty years.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Trefrey, of Gilford, NH and Carol Nadeau of Laconia, NH; two sons, Gerard J. Martel, Jr. of Manchester, NH and Stephen Martel of Worcester, MA; three grandsons, Dana Martel of Laconia, NH, and Adam Martel and Darren Martel, both of Manchester, NH; many great grandchildren; a brother, William Martel, and his wife, Helen, of Gilford, NH; three sisters, Doris Bragg of Methuen, MA, Antoinette Cox and her husband, Donald, of Tilton, NH, Leonore Ash and her husband, Larry, of Manchester, CT; many nephews and nieces and his loving companion, Eleanor Fields, of Lakeport, NH. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by his infant son, David Martel and his infant grandson, Gerard J. Martel III.

Calling Hours will be held on Friday, July 16, 2004 from 7:00-9:00 PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street,
Laconia, NH.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 17, 2004 at 10:00AM at Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Avenue, Laconia, NH. Burial will follow in the family lot in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Laconia, NH.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Lakes Region General Hospital, 80 Highland Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
