Laconia, NH Vincent J. Leo, 81, 35 North St., died, peacefully, at his home on July 5, 2005. He was born September 19, 1923 in Newburgh, NY to the late Pasquale and Francesca Maria.
Mr. Leo was a veteran of WWII, having served as an artilleryman with the U.S. Army in the Pacific. He was the Commissioner of Parks and Recreation for the City of Newburgh, NY, and was a retired civilian employee of the U.S. Military Academy, West Point.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Parish, Newburgh, NY and Our Lady of the Lakes Church, Lakeport, NH, and was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Leo was a proficient baseball and softball umpire, and basketball referee. He was an executive officer and past president of Board 180, International Athletic Association of Basketball Officials (I.A.A.B.O.), past president of the Orange County Baseball Umpires Association (O.C.B.U.A.), and a member of the following associations: the College Basketball Officials (C.B.O.A.), Amateur Softball (A.S.A.), New York State Girls Softball Umpires, and the New York State Girls Basketball Officials. He was also an inductee of the Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame, Newburgh, NY. Vincent enjoyed boxing, baseball, and the horses.
Vincent is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marie A. (Cassanite), by his daughters, Francesca M. Mudge and her husband, William, of Laconia, and Rozanna Leo-Fields and her husband, Gregory, of Los Angeles, CA; a brother, Carl, of Goshen, NY, two sisters, Gloria Pagentine of Newburgh, NY, and Lucille Blair of Boca Raton, FL; three grandchildren, Jordan and Alyson Tankard and Caelan Leo-Fields, seven nieces and eight nephews. Mr. Leo was predeceased by three sisters: Angelina, Jean, and Fortunata.
Memorial calling hours will be held on Friday July 8, 2005, from 6-8 pm using the Carriage House entrance of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at our Lady of the Lakes Church, 50 Washington Street, Lakeport, NH on Saturday July 9, 2005, 11 am. A memorial service will be held in Newburgh, NY in September, 2005.
