Belmont----James T. McCracken, Sr., 90, formerly of Ladd Hill Road, Belmont, died at the Forestview Manor, Meredith Saturday July 9, 2005. He was the widower of Dorothy V. (Shattuck) McCracken who died in 2000.
Mr. McCracken was born February 11, 1915 in Philadelphia, PA the son of immigrants from Northern Ireland, Archibald and Annie (Currie) McCracken. He was raised in Philadelphia and graduated from Penn State with a degree in forestry. He came to Laconia in 1938 for the US Forestry Service to help with the clean up of the Hurricane of 1938. After the clean up he was transferred to Kansas and later Colorado. He enjoyed New Hampshire and the Lakes Region and came back to Laconia and was employed as an engineer for Scott & Williams for many years.
Mr. McCracken was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, Laconia. He enjoyed wood carving, painting and gardening.
Survivors include two grandchildren Todd M. Workman of Center Harbor and Scott Workman of Gilford; 6 great-grandsons and a son-in-law Michael Workman of Gilmanton. Beside his parents and his wife he was predeceased by his son James T. McCracken, Jr. in 1995 and his daughter Sharon L. Workman in 1997.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 30 Church Street, Laconia Wednesday July 13, 2005 at 9:30 AM. The Rev. Gary Kosmowski, pastor of the church will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in the family lot in Union Cemetery, Laconia. A reception will follow at Top of the Town Restaurant, Ladd Hill Road, Belmont after the burial.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the New Hampshire Catholic Charities, Inc. 215 Myrtle Street, Manchester, NH 03104.
