Gilmanton---Kenneth Russell Paige (76) of Gilmanton, founder and past President of Madeira, USA died July 24, 2006. Upon graduating from Laconia High School in 1948, he entered the US Air Force and served with distinction as an airman during the greatest humanitarian effort in American aviation history. He received the award for Humane Conduct during his service time. It was during this time that he met and married Eva Schroeder in Munich. They remained together until Eva’s death in the year 2000.
Upon his discharge from military service in 1951, Ken began his career in the textile industry at Scott & Williams. A skilled engineer and life long student of design and textile applications, he joined Burlington Industries, Graham, NC as Vice President of Research and Design. There he developed a host of industrial and apparel applications that were recognized as innovative and unique. In the early 1970’s, he returned to Laconia and served as Vice President of Texknit Industries of Lochmere where he served until the founding of Madeira , USA in 1984. He retired from that position in 2003 after having earned recognition throughout the textile industry where he was well known for his sense of integrity, vision, and determination.
He is survived by his fiancée, Lorraine Lavoie, of Gilmanton and Manchester; a son, Ronald (Katherine). Paige, of Key West, Florida; daughters, Linda Paige-Perkins of Lakeport, Dr. Lori Ann Paige of Easthampton, Ma. and Michelle (Rudy, Sr.) Dion of Belmont; grandchildren, Russell, Nathaniel, Christopher and Andrew Perkins; Rudy, Jessica and Quentin Dion and Matthew Paige and Allison Paige-Gallagher, Esq.; great-grand-daughter, Julia Perkins; brother- in- law, Ira Roberts; a cousin, Christine Torrey, of Gilmanton and a niece, Brenda Long, of Belmont.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth C. Paige and Christine (Torrey) Paige and by a sister, Norma Roberts, of Belmont. Memorial calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 from 7:00-9:00PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH.
A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2006, at 11:00AM at the family lot in South Road Cemetery, Belmont, NH. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation, Manchester, NH office, 249 Canal St., Manchester, NH 03101 or the NH Native American Intertribal Scholarship Fund, 18 Spring Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
