Laconia-----Elsie E. Goodwin, 94, formerly of 57 Parker Place, died at the Belknap County Nursing Home on Tuesday, July 31, 2007. She was the widow of James F. Goodwin who died in 1965.
Mrs. Goodwin was born May 10, 1913 in Harvard, Illinois, the daughter of Hans P. and Martha (Jensen) Nielsen. She had been a resident of Laconia since 1947.
Mrs. Goodwin graduated from Waterloo High School, Waterloo, Wisconsin in 1931 and from St. Luke’s School of Nursing at Rush-Presbyterian St Luke’s Hospital, Chicago, Illinois, in 1935. In 1935, she married James F. Goodwin.
Mrs. Goodwin was a registered nurse and was employed at the Melrose Hospital, Melrose, Mass. and the Chelsea Naval Hospital, Chelsea, Mass. She was later employed as a bookkeeper at the Goodwin Paper Company and Kellerhaus for many years.
Mrs. Goodwin was a member of the Opechee Park Club for many years.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha Bissonnette, of Laconia, N.H.; a sister, Dorothy Garinger, of Pittston, Pennsylvania; a sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Gene Shepard, of Waterloo, Wisconsin; a niece, Gail Garinger, of Cary, North Carolina and one nephew, Thomas Shepard, of Middleton, Wisconsin.
A Calling hour will be held from Noon-1:00PM on Sunday, August 5, 2007 in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00PM. The Rev. Joel Nason, Pastor of the Heritage Free Will Baptist Church, Laconia will officiate.
Burial will follow in the family lot in Bayside Cemetery, Laconia, N.H.
