New Hampton-----Edwin L. Smith, 59, of 262 Jackson Pond Road, died at the Lakes Region Hospital, Laconia on Wednesday, July 25, 2007. 

         Mr. Smith was born May 18, 1948 in Laconia, N. H., the son of Lewis E. and Olive V. (Dicey) Smith.  He lived most of his life in Laconia before moving to New Hampton ten years ago. 

         Mr. Smith served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1966-1968.  He was employed at the Laconia State School for twenty-four years and by the Newfound School District for four years.

         Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn A. (Taylor) Smith of New Hampton; four stepchildren; seven grandchildren; his father, Lewis E. Smith, of New Hampton; three half-sisters, Myrtle Ann Pack of South Carolina and Linda Smith and Mona Colburn, both of Vermont; an aunt and uncle, Roger and Mary Smith of Dazell, South Carolina and many nephews, nieces and cousins.  He was predeceased by his mother. 

         There will be no calling hours.

         A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, July 30, 2007 at 10:00AM at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, N. H.
