Laconia, NH--- Kenneth Raymond Scroggs, 58, of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia died at his home on June 12, 2004.
Mr. Scroggs was born Feb. 22, 1946 in Amesbury, MA. to John W. Scroggs of Baltimore, MD. and Cecile Sevigny of Amesbury, MA. He grew up in Baltimore and Amesbury. At the age of 10, he moved to Laconia with his mother and stepfather, Roger Bedford.
Mr. Scroggs attended St. John's Catholic School (now Holy Trinity) and graduated from Laconia High School Class of 1964. After high school, he joined the Army and served in Korea. He attained the rank of E5 and worked in Military Intelligence.
Mr. Scroggs went to work for Sanders in Nashua and worked there for 21 years as an Electronics Engineer and Special Projects Manager. He made his home in Hudson, N.H. with his former wife, Jane ( Plummer) and their two daughters. He graduated from Lowell University, Summa Cum Laude, Class of 1975, with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree.
In 1992, he went to work for Advanced Electronics Company in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He worked there 12 years until his untimely death. He was Business Development Manager of the Military Business Unit. He was intending to retire in a few months to New Hampshire.
Mr. Scroggs was a member of the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge #39 of Nashua, N.H. He was a member of the Scottish RiteValley of Nashua and the N.H. Consistory 32nd Degree. He also was a member of the Bektash Shrine of Concord, N.H. He was a former coach In the Hudson Youth Softball League.
Survivors include his wife, Estela (Ella) Menor Scroggs of Saudi Arabia and the Philippines; two daughters, Ann Lucas and her husband, Paul, of Kennedyville Md.; SGT Doreen Tolson USMC of Okinawa, Japan. Two stepsons, Gines Bryan Menor and Keith Menor of the Philippines.
The light of his life were his 5 grandchildren and he was in the States at the time of their births. They are Katryna Cote, Zola Mae Lucas and Kenneth Ryan Lucas of Kennedyville, Md. and Meikel Corinne Scroggs and Faith Simone Tolson of Okinawa, Japan.
Mr. Scroggs is survived by two brothers and two sisters in N.H, Michael Bedford and his wife, Betty, of Manchester, N.H.; Daniel Bedford and his wife, Cindy, of Gilmanton, N.H.; Sandra Bedford and Diane Bedford of Laconia, N.H. He has three half sisters in Maryland, Dolores Hooker, Sherry Parks and Carol Swigar.
Mr. Scroggs loved and was adored by his nieces and nephews, including Kate Bedford and Lisa Bedford of Gilmanton, N.H.; Renee Laverdiere and her husband, Randy, Michelle Bedford and Monique Bedford all of Manchester, N.H., Ali Plummer of Meredith, N.H., David Plummer of New Hampton, N.H. and Steven Plummer of Rutland, VT. He leaves behind several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Mr. Scroggs was a loving family man with a big heart. He especially enjoyed time surrounded by children. He enjoyed life to the fullest and made sure all around him were blessed with his humor and charm.
Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 from 6:00-9:00PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, New Hampshire.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Avenue, Laconia, NH on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at 10:00AM. Rev. Adrien Longchamps, Pastor of the church, will celebrate.
Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Laconia, NH.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Kenneth R. Scroggs Scholarship (for a student pursuing an electronic engineering degree) c/o Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 7312, Gilford, NH 03247-7312
They ask also that you pray for the safe return of all American soldiers and civilians who are serving and working in the Middle East.
