Gilford------Mrs. Vera E. “Mammie” Strathern, 85, of 7 Ridgewood Ave., died surrounded by her loving family at the Golden View Health Care Center, Meredith Saturday June 26, 2004. She was the widow of Arthur W. Strathern who died in 2001.
Mrs. Strathern was born April 5, 1919 in Middletown, N.Y. the daughter of Thomas S. and Sadie (Rosman) Edwards, Sr. She graduated from Alton High School, Alton, N.H. She had been a long time resident of the Lakes Region.
Mrs. Strathern was employed by Winconia Corp. for 31 years retiring as the supervisor in the stitching plant in 1980. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Laconia-Gilford. She lived the simple life and lived for her daughter, grandchildren and their families.
Survivors include a daughter Donna L. Mooney of Gilford; 2 grandsons Scott and his wife Kim Lacasse of Gilford and Kevin and his wife Kim Lacasse of Gilford; 5 great-grandchildren Trevor, Jeremy, Ashley, Justin and Klye; a nephew and 2 nieces. Beside her parents and husband she was predeceased by 2 brothers Glenn Edwards and Thomas S. Edwards, Jr. who died April 13, 2004.
There are no calling hours.
A graveside service will be held in Union Cemetery, Academy Street, Laconia Friday July 2, 2004 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Dr. Victoria Wood Parrish, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church will officiate.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Community Health & Hospice 780 North Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
