GILFORD - Donald Bartlett Tuson, 87, of 2761 Lake Shore Road, Gilford, NH died March 7, 2007 at Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia. Mr. Tuson was born on May 24, 1919 in Manchester, NH to Albert M. and Winnefred (Gilbert) Tuson. He was a graduate of Manchester Central High School, class of 1937, the College of Commerce and Business Administration of the University of Alabama, class of 1941, and did graduate study at Pace University in New York City. He served in the United States Navy in World War II.
Mr. Tuson spent his working career in the fields of accounting and finance. He held Certified Public Accountant Certificates issued by the states of New York, Ohio, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. He was a life member of The Financial Executives International, The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and an Honorary Member of the New Hampshire Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Tuson retired in 1984 from H.P. Hood, Inc. where he was employed as Executive Vice President of Finance and Accounting. Earlier in his career, he served as Chief Accounting and Financial Officer, and was on the Board of Directors for several international corporations. He also served on the staffs of Price, Waterhouse and Peat, Marwick & Mitchell & Co., both international accounting firms.
Mr. Tuson was an avid jazz drummer. Beginning in his teenage years, he played at numerous jazz clubs and dance halls across New England, and continued playing during his years in Alabama and his later working
years. He also devoted much of his time volunteering with organizations devoted to serving the mentally ill after his retirement.
He is survived by two sons, Geoffrey B. Tuson and Donald B. Tuson, Jr., of Somers and Binghamton, New York, a daughter, June Tuson Dufford, of Park City, Utah, and five loving grandchildren. His wife of fifty nine years, Margaret H. Tuson, predeceased him in June
of 2006.
Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Gilford, N.H. At Mr. Tuson's expressed wishes, there will be no funeral services, only a short prayer service at the graveside. The family will hold a memorial service at some future date. His family would like to thank the supportive staff at Lakes Region General Hospital. Most especially, they are grateful for the kindness and generosity of his friends and neighbors in Country Village Way and Manchester.
