Robert M. Baum Avid skier and family man Robert was born May 29, 1920 in Mannheim, Germany the son of Ernst E. and Luise (Hallenstein) Baum. He attended High School in Mannheim and graduated from High School in London, England. He received a BS from Sir George Williams College, now Concordia University, in Montreal, Canada. Bob received an MS in Physics and Mathematics from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. Robert was elected to Sigma Xi & Sigma Pi Sigma, Science & Physics Honor Societies and was a past member of the American Society of Physics Teachers, American Physics Society, and Society for Engineering Education. Robert had been employed at IPC/Carl Freudenberg-NOK in Bristol from 1971-1990. He was an engineer liaison and translator with affiliated German companies. He was previously employed as an engineer by GTE-Sylvania in Newton, Woburn, and Ipswich, Mass. and Hillsboro from 1953-1971. Robert had been active in the Boy Scouts in Marblehead, Mass. and Hillsboro. Bob was an avid Alpine and Nordic skier, hiker, and swimmer. He was a former member of the Pasquaney Snow Shoe Club. Bob was a member of the New Hampton Historical Society and of the Friends of the Gordon Nash Library. Bob’s other hobbies included family genealogy, world history and reading. In former years Bob enjoyed traveling abroad and visiting his children throughout the United States. Survivors include his wife of 54 years Rebecca (Ritchie) Baum of New Hampton; 2 sons, Robert Stephen Baum of Landaff and David Andrew Baum of Acton, MA; 3 daughters, Sarah Luise Baum of Magalia, CA, Elizabeth Margaret Baum of Rowley, MA. and Alice Deborah Goodrich of Burlington, VT; 2 grandchildren, Monica and Julia Baum; and 2 nephews, Peter and Michael Baum. Beside his parents he was pre-deceased by a brother, Rolf Baum and a sister, Doris Baum. There are no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held at the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St, Laconia on Friday, March 20, 2009 at 1pm using the Carriage House entrance. A graveside service will be held in the spring in the New Hampton Village Cemetery, New Hampton. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to New Hampshire Public Radio, 2 Pillsbury Street, Concord, NH 03301.
