Madeline C. Nickerson
Belmont----Madeline C. Nickerson, 95, formerly of Smithfield, Maine, passed away at Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia on Thursday, March 18, 2010 after a short illness.
Mrs. Nickerson was born in Vassalboro, Maine on November 3, 1914. She was the daughter of Melbourne and Edith (Brewer) Cronkhite. She was a graduate of Lawrence High School in Fairfield, Maine and sang gospel music on a radio station in Bangor prior to her marriage. On June 18, 1939, she married Walter Nickerson. They spent most of their married lives in Chatham, N.J. and later retired in Smithfield, Maine.
In 1980, she moved to Belmont to be with her daughter and family. She had been a member of the South Baptist Church in Laconia since 1980 where she taught Sunday school for several years and served on the Board of Deacons for a period time. Prior to her move to N.H., she volunteered for the chaplain in a local hospital.
Mrs. Nickerson is survived by her son, James, of Folsom, Calif.; a daughter, Donna Dinsmore, of Belmont; one granddaughter, Lindsay Youdan, of Calif. and two grandsons, Chad and Eric Dinsmore, of Belmont and four great-grandsons. She is also survived by a cousin, Janet Sawyer, of Laconia. She was predeceased by her mother, father, husband, and brother, Donald Cronkhite.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 11:00AM at the South Baptist Church, 85 Court Street, Laconia, N.H.
