Laconia-----Norman A. Laurent, 75, of 39 Howard Street, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital on Sunday, May 11, 2003. Mr. Laurent was born May 17, 1927 in Laconia, the son of Albert and Georgianna (Venne) Laurent. He was a life time resident of Laconia and was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.
During World War II, Mr. Laurent served in the U. S Navy from 1944-1948. In 1959, Mr. Laurent and his brother, Noel Laurent, started the garage door business known as Laurent Overhead Doors.
Mr. Laurent was a member of the Laconia Fire Department for 17 years and was Deputy Fire Chief when he retired in 1974.
Mr. Laurent was a life member of the Laconia Lodge of Elks #876, a life member of the Wilkins Smith Post No. 1 American Legion, and a life member of the V. F.W. Post #1670 of Laconia. He was also a member of the Professional Permanent Firefighters of New Hampshire, a member of the Retired Professional Permanent Firefighters of New Hampshire, the Laconia Firefighters Relief Association, and was an honorary member of the New Hampshire Fire Chiefs Club. He was an avid golfer and bowler and loved to play Bingo. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Rita (Levesque) Laurent of Laconia; a son, Charles Laurent, of Laconia; four daughters, Norma O'Connor of Gilford, NH, Patty Szuluk of Kingsport, Tenn, Charlene Morin and June Tardif, both of Laconia, NH; 18 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; a sister, Doris Laurent Haynes, of Norwalk, Ohio and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a son, Thomas A. Laurent in 1999, by two brothers, Noel J. Laurent and Roger L. Laurent and by three sisters, Rena Roy, Vilada Dickson and Dorothy Laurent.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2003 from 7:00-9:00 PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 15, 2003 at 11:00AM at Sacred Heart Church, Laconia. Rev. Adrien Longchamps, Pastor of the Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in the family lot in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
