Joan C. Alward

Gilford, NH----Mrs. Joan C. Alward, 56, of  2761 Lake Shore Road and formerly a long time resident of Belmont, NH died suddenly at the Holy Cross Medical Center, Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Tuesday, May 18, 2004.

Mrs. Alward was born October 23, 1947 in Manchester, NH, the daughter of Michael and Marion (Babin) Cavanaugh.  She graduated from St. Joseph High School, Manchester and was a Vista Volunteer in West Virginia for a number of years.

Mrs. Alward lived most of her life in Belmont.  She and her husband owned and operated Gus’s Country Store for eighteen years.  Mrs. Alward was a Driver’s Ed teacher at Belmont High School for eleven years and was a former school bus driver for the Town of Belmont.  She was a very active member of the Belmont community and was very proud of her antique cars.

Mrs. Alward loved life and above all she lived for her grandchildren.

Mrs. Alward was a communicant of St. Joseph Parish, Belmont.

Survivors include her husband, Charles I. Alward, of Gilford; two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott E. and Jessica Alward, of Laconia, NH and Christopher C. and Rhonda Alward of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; three grandchildren, Madison Kennedy Alward, Bradon McAlister Alward and Riley Cavanaugh Alward; her mother, Marion Cavanaugh of Gilford, NH; her sister, Patricia Clement, of Gilford, NH and many nephews and nieces.  She was predeceased by her father and a grandson, Logan Christopher Alward.

Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2004 from 6:00-9:00 PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Parish, 6 High Street, Belmont, NH on Thursday, May 27, 2004 at 10:00AM.

Burial will be in Bayside Cemetery, Laconia, NH at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Joan C. Alward Memorial Scholarship, c/o Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 7312, Gilford, NH 03247-7312.
