Laconia---Barbara G. Mason, 94, of 21 Ledges Drive and formerly of 39 Kinsman Drive, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Saturday, May 29, 2004. She was former long time resident of Melrose, MA coming to Laconia in 1993.

Barbara was born July 19, 1909 in Melrose, MA the daughter of Hervey and Achsa O. (Chase) Mason. She was a branch supervisor for the Melrose Public Library for 38 years, retiring in 1972.

She graduated in 1928 from Melrose High School, Melrose, MA and from Colby Junior College now Colby-Sawyer College in New London, NH in 1930 with an Associate in Arts degree. She received her BA from Denison University in 1932 and a BS in Library Science from Simmons College in 1933.

She was a former member and clerk of the First Baptist Church of Melrose a member of the Melrose Historical Society and the Melrose Community Assoc. and class agent for the class of 1930 for Colby-Sawyer College. She is a member of the Laconia Congregational Church of Laconia.

Survivors include 3 sisters, Audrey Phelps of Lakewood, N.Y., Constance Lane of Laconia, NH and Brenda Leach of Nashville, TN; nephews and nieces, Judith Mason of Cambridge, MA; Peter H. Mason of Melrose, MA, Stephen W. Lane of Hawaii, Harold E. Lane, Jr. of Groton, MA, Nancy Lane Piper of Center Tuftonboro, NH, David Phelps of New York, Carol Lea-Mord of Tennessee and Bradford R. Leach of Colorado. Beside her parents she was predeceased by a brother, Stanley C. Mason.

There are no calling hours.

A Memorial service will be held at a later date. Date and time will be announced.

Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose, MA.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund or the Mason Family Trust C/O the First Baptist Church of Melrose, 561 Main Street, Melrose, MA 02176 or the Laconia Congregational Church, 18 Veterans Square, Laconia, NH 03246.
