John A. Piscopo, Sr.

SANBORNTON, NH- John A. Piscopo, Sr., 85, of Hunkins Pond Road died Saturday, May 26 at his home surrounded by his family.  Born October 25, 1921 in Laconia, NH he was the son of the late Benjamin and Giselda (Spagnoli) Piscopo.

He attended Manlius Military Academy in Manlius, NY, Laconia High School and Bentley School of Accounting in Boston, and served in the US Navy during World War II.  Married to Mildred (Millie) Scott, his wife of 61 years, he lived in the Lakes Region all of his life where he managed family properties in downtown Laconia and owned and operated Mt. View Motel and Cottages on Lake Winnisquam.  He served many years on the Board of Directors of the Citizen’s National Bank.

He was well known in the Lakes Region for his long affiliation with sled dog racing and was a member of the Lakes Region Sled Dog Club for many years.  He had a love of woodworking, fishing and gardening, and was known for his generosity, sharp wit and gentle ways.  He was a communicant of St Joseph’s Parish in Belmont, NH

He is survived by, and will be missed by his family; his wife, Mildred, of Sanbornton, son, John A. Piscopo II, of Boca Raton, Florida, son, James S.  and his wife, Nicole (St. Clair) Piscopo, of Sanbornton, daughter, Cynthia P. Howland, of Pompano Beach, Florida, and four grandsons, John A Piscopo III of Florida, and Justin S. and J. Austin Piscopo both of Sanbornton and Corey J. Piscopo of Dover NH.; nephews, John Harkins of Tolland, Ct., Robert Scott of Gilford, and Richard Scott of Nashua, and a niece, Peggy Dea, of Concord, NH. Beside his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Isabella Hopkinson and Marie P. Simoneau.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday May 30, 2007 from 5-8 PM at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia using the Carriage House entrance.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph Parish Belmont Thursday at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery Laconia.
