Gilford------Elmon L. Phelps, 91, formerly of 894 Cherry Valley Road, died at the St. Francis Home, Laconia on Friday, November 12, 2004. He was the widower of Iva E. (Bachelder) Phelps who died in 1990.
Mr. Phelps was born February 2, 1913 in Laconia, NH, the son of Arthur L. and Jessie L. (Levoy) Phelps. He later moved to Gilford where he lived for most of his life.
Mr. Phelps was a farmer and operated his own farm for twenty-four years. He also worked for the Gunstock Ski Area for twenty-eight years and also the Colby Marine Construction Co. and also for Prescotts Lumber Co. in Meredith.
Mr. Phelps attended the Faith Community Baptist Church of Loudon, NH. He was an ardent sports fisherman and traveled to Alaska seven times.
Survivors include a son, Ivan D. Phelps, of Melvin Village, NH; four grandchildren, Mrs. Sandra Haungs of Penacook, NH, Mrs. Donna Dolloff of Hooksett, NH, Jonathon Phelps of Melvin Village, NH and John Walker of Laconia, NH; five great grandchildren; a sisters, Mrs. Barbara G. Sheppard of Connecticut; and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a daughter, Jessie P. Walker, in 2003 and a sister Alice M. Files in 2004.
Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2004 from 10:00-11:00AM in the Carriage House of the
Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH. A Funeral Service will follow the
Calling Hours at 11:00AM also at the Funeral Home1. Rev. Harold Muzzey will officiate.
Burial will follow in the family lot at Pine Grove Cemetery, Gilford, NH
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Francis Home Activities Fund 406 Court Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
