Laconia----Donald E. Royce Sr., 94 of 25 Worthen Road, Apt. 309 Durham and formerly long time resident of Laconia and Manchester died Friday November 24, 2006 after a recent period of failing health.
Mr. Royce was born September 23 1912 in Concord the son of Edgar and Edith Royce. He married Pauline Bechard in 1936 and they recently celebrated their seventieth anniversary.
Mr. Royce was employed by the United States Postal Service in Laconia for over 30 years of service. He volunteered and served in the Army during World War II and served in New Guinea and in the Philippines. After the war ended, he continued his service in the Reserves and in the National Guard. He retired in 1972 with a rank of major. He completed his employment experience with five years in the banking industry.
Upon his retirement, Polly and Don traveled extensively. For twenty years, they spent the coldest months in Florida and returned to Manchester for the spring through fall. They especially enjoyed cruises and they went on many trips to various destinations.
Mr. Royce is survived by his wife Pauline of Durham, his sons Donald
Jr. of Dallas, Georgia, Steven and his wife Maryellen of Buffalo, New York, and Peter and his wife Nona of Barrington, New Hampshire; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister Olive Perkins of Manchester, New Hampshire.
There are no calling hours.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday November 29, 2006 at 1:00 PM in Bayside Cemetery Union Ave. Laconia, New Hampshire.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Laconia Salvation Army, 177 Union Ave. Laconia, NH 03246.
