Belmont-----Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Bennett, formerly of High Street, passed away October 31, 2002 at age 96. She was born in Belmont, NH, May 23, 1906, the daughter of Lillian E. and A. Hayden Jones. She attended school in Belmont, Tilton School and Plymouth Teacher&Mac226;s College and taught in a one-room schoolhouse on Province Road in Belmont.
Following her marriage to Miles N. Bennett, Mary lived in Chelmsford and Waltham, MA for twelve years. She has lived in Belmont since 1942, and spent summers on Squam Lake for over fifty years. She was preceded in death by a son, Miles, Jr. in 1968, and her husband in 1990. She is survived by a sister, Dorothy Dow, of Loudon, NH and two daughters, Marilyn Adams of Santa Clara, CA and Ruth (Robbins) Bennett of Belmont. Her grandchildren are Kathleen Robbins of Belmont, Gary Robbins of Santa Cruz, CA, Nancy Benjamin of Stratham, NH, Michael Simonds, Jennifer Sliter, James Adams III, all of San Jose, CA and four great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2002 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH, using the Carriage House entrance.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2002 at 3:00 PM at the Family Bible Church, Loudon Ridge, Loudon followed by the burial at the Loudon Ridge Cemetery. Rev. Stephen Ludwick, Pastor of the Church, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Miles Bennett Scholarship Fund, c/o Belmont High School, 255 Seavey Road, Belmont, NH 03220.
