Sylvia Bell Gray

Laconia----Sylvia Bell Gray, 98, of 13 Pear Street, Lakeport, died at her home on Wednesday, October 13, 2004.

Mrs. Gray was born February 7, 1906 in Center Sandwich, NH, the daughter of Charles S. and Grace (Chase) Burnham. She was a long time resident of Center Sandwich and was a member of the United Baptist Church of Center Sandwich. Mrs. Gray moved to Laconia 50 years ago and worked at Scott & Williams for 25 years, retiring in 1973. She loved to knit and each year she would knit 300 pairs of mittens and hats to distribute to the local children at Halloween.

Survivors include a son, William I. Gray, of Laconia; six daughters, Alice Hewitt of Gilford, NH, Edith Dumais of York, PA, Helen Smalz of Arizona, Marilyn Gray of Florida and Elizabeth Chase and Mary Tutt both of Laconia, NH; 22 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and many great, great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Richard Gray, in 1985 and by a brother, S. Wesley Burnham, in 1992. According to Mrs. Gray's wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral service.

Mrs. Gray's family would like to extend many thanks to the local Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Health & Hospice, Inc., 780 No. Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
